This site is dedicated to the memory of Iris Horlock.

One sunny Sunday in Ostende, Iris, seven years old at the time and a non-swimmer, found herself in deep water after being chased along the breakwater by her friend Andre, brandishing a star fish. In her panic, she ran off the edge and luckily was rescued by a rotund Belgian gentleman in a knitted bathing suit. This near-drowning experience instilled in her a great fear of water and an equally great respect and gratitude to those brave enough to rescue others in aquatic difficulties. This fear never left her and she was even very wary of travelling through the Channel tunnel with "all that water on top" of her. Despite this, Iris loved being by the sea. She enjoyed the sea in Mallorca as well as from UK shores. Iris greatly admired people who put their lives at risk saving others at sea and always said that if she won the pools, the first thing she would do is buy a lifeboat. Thank you for helping make this a meaningful tribute to Iris.
